SciCan, SycoTec & MICRO-MEGA merge to form new group
Toronto, Canada-based SciCan, a manufacturer of infection control products, will join with dental manufacturer Leutkirch, Germany-based SycoTec (previously EWL, a subsidiary of the KAVO Group) and endodontic specialist MICRO-MEGA (Besançon, France) in a merger of equals. SciCan has subsidiaries in Canonsburg, Pa.; Augsburg, Germany; and Zug, Switzerland, and is a producer of table top autoclaves. SycoTec concentrates on drives and specialized motors, and MICRO-MEGA manufactures root canal instruments and hand pieces. SciCan complements this range of products with infection control technologies, which include washing, disinfection and sterilization. SycoTec’s Managing Partner Dr. Martin Rickert will manage the new organization, which will be one of the 10 largest dental equipment manufacturers in the world, a release said. The three companies will integrate under one common administrative and strategic umbrella, but will remain independent. The merger is not characterized as an acquisition and no cash exchanged hands. The family-owned SciCan and its brands will remain in their present form. SciCan’s Chairman Arthur Zwingenberger will serve as chairman of the new group, which has not yet been named. Advantages of the merger are expected to include expanded market access through the distribution networks of all three companies; the market advantage of a “one-stop shop” for everything from instruments to motors to the entire reprocessing system, and synergies in administration, at trade shows, in IT and in research and development
