A Lot to Cover

As we move into the holiday season, many of us prepare to slow the pace of work. It represents a time to review, relax and reflect on the year professionally.

Yet as I reviewed the content for this issue, I came away with almost the opposite feeling - what a busy time it is in the industry, and how diverse the issues are that confront salespeople every day. In this final issue of our inaugural year, we cover a wide variety of stories that impact the dental business in many ways.
  • In early October, the New York Times ran an interesting story about dentists making more money than ever before which, of course, bodes well for salespeople. One of the biggest contributors to that increase in income is due to the growth in cosmetic dentistry. Our cover story focuses on that aspect, and what it has meant to dentists, and more importantly, what opportunities it presents to you as salespeople.
  • We look at the impact of "Made in China" products on the market. In light of a lot of recent problems with Chinese imports, sales reps need to be prepared to respond to customers who may have concerns and questions about the quality of the products they buy.
  • We also look at the impact of dental practice management companies, and what effect they have in the market today, and what role they might play down the road.
  • Our Tech Talk focuses on the profitability of implants, and our distributor profile features Nashville Dental, a company that has roots more than 100 years old. The lineup also includes regular features on sales and marketing from Brian Sullivan and Ask the Expert advice from Dr. Sheila Dunn.
We also are pleased to announce that in 2008, we will feature a regular column from the Dental Trade Alliance (DTA) that will focus on industry issues and how they may impact you as a sales rep or manager. Many, if not most, of the companies you work for are members of the DTA. With all that you as salespeople have going on, it might be hard to stay abreast of news at the industry level. Thus, it makes sense to provide updates within an organization that works on the behalf of your interests at that level.

And finally, we thank our readers for their support, and our Premiere Sponsors for their valuable contributions in making First Impressions’ first year a memorable one.

From all of us at FI, we wish you a wonderful Holiday Season!
