NDC Promotes Paulson
Nashville, Tenn.-based National Distribution & Contracting, Inc. (NDC) promoted Lori Paulson to VP of marketing and dental programs. Paulson has been managing director of the American Dental Cooperative (ADC) and United Dental Dealers (UDD), two NDC subsidiaries for over eight years. In this newly-created position, she will expand responsibilities within the medical market while still remaining active in dental dealer interactions. NDC acquired ADC in 1999 where Paulson was vice president of marketing. Prior to ADC, Paulson was director of marketing for Pelton and Crane, a dental equipment and sterilization manufacturer. Additionally, Paulson managed several key product lines at Midwest Company (now Dentsply Professional).

Mark Seitz, NDC president and CEO, commented, "Lori’s experience in various marketing positions with leading manufacturing companies over her 25-year career provides the foundation for this new NDC position." Paulson will manage the NDC marketing and creative services department consisting of Michele Deen (director of marketing), Jackie Jones (director of advertising and creative services) and Laura Reline (director of brand development).

Septodont, NDC sign warehouse distribution agreement
New Castle, Del.-based Septodont, Inc., announced that it has entered into a new warehouse distribution agreement with Nashville, Tenn.-based National Distribution & Contracting, Inc. (NDC). The warehouse distribution agreement, effective July 1, 2008, will offer the complete Septodont product portfolio to NDC’s 45 dental distributors in the American Dental Cooperative (ADC) and the United Dental Dealers (UDD) groups. The agreement will allow Septodont to stock its products directly in the NDC warehouses (Tennessee and Nevada). The new program expands the current offering of the Image® Restorative line and the Infection Control Products to include the Septocaine® brand and the entire line of injectable anesthetics. The anesthetic products will be incorporated in the new NDC e-pedigree initiative which provides the dealers with the required information electronically.

"This partnership will provide Septodont the ability to service our dealer customer base efficiently," said Paul Mondock, Septodont VP of sales and marketing.

Lori Paulson, VP of Marketing and Dental Programs at NDC added, "Expanding the Septodont product offering means the independent dental dealers will be able to capitalize on the opportunity to efficiently serve their customers".

Heraeus Kulzer to Consolidate North American Headquarters in South Bend, Ind.
Heraeus Kulzer, Inc., announced the relocation of the North American headquarters to its current manufacturing and distribution facility in South Bend, Ind. The move will take place in stages with completion of the relocation scheduled for December 2008. The company expects approximately one-third of its workforce to migrate from its current location in Armonk, N.Y. or continue working remotely on behalf of the company.

All business functions including sales, customer service, finance, accounting, technical services, and marketing will be centralized at the South Bend facility to better serve customers and accommodate the company’s growing workforce.

"This is a time of unprecedented innovation in esthetic dentistry ... and in the history of Heraeus. Mydent International unveils new Web site
Mydent International unveiled a new Web site (www.defend.com). Mydent and its DEFEND brand of products will be well represented in this new, clean, "state-of-the-industry" Web experience. The new site includes all of the current product offerings, current promotions (with an easy-to-use "Redemption Center"), downloadable MSDS access, company info, published articles pertaining to Mydent and its products, informational links, downloadable product images, and much more.

J. Morita USA opens new showroom
Irvine, Calif.-based J. Morita USA opened a new showroom and multimedia educational center located at the headquarters office at 9 Mason in Irvine, Calif. The showroom highlights Morita’s product line, including the new Veraviewepocs 2D/3D and 3D Accuitomo 80 digital imaging units and the Veraview IC5 digital panoramic. Other equipment on display includes TwinPower Turbine (with cutting stations), Lubrina Handpiece Maintenance System, Root ZX II, and Spaceline EMCIA, as well as consumables.

Midmark names McLaughlin product manager, analgesia and equipment room products
Versailles, Ohio-based Midmark Corporation has named Matt McLaughlin product manager, analgesia and equipment room products. McLaughlin will be responsible for the development and growth of the air, vacuum and nitrous product lines for Midmark. He will report directly to Bill Zulauf, director of marketing, dental products.

"We are pleased to have Matt join our team," said Zulauf. "Matt’s marketing background along with his drive for success will be beneficial as we continue to grow and develop products in this market."

Prior to joining Midmark, McLaughlin was a sales consultant for NCR Corporation’s Systemedia division, in Dayton, Ohio, providing media consumables solutions to businesses in the southeastern United States. He was also product manager for the label product line in North and South America.

McLaughlin graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business with a minor in marketing from the Richard T. Farmer School of Business at Miami University. He will reside in Tipp City, Ohio.

Aribex reorganizes sales and marketing functions
Orem, Utah-based Aribex, Inc., has reorganized its sales and marketing functions along market segmentation lines.

Michael Heyn will assume the position of dental segment manager, with Tom Batz as national sales manager. Pete Steinhausen, an Aribex veteran, will cover international sales and marketing. Steve Dawson has also been added as marketing manager supporting both the dental and veterinary markets.

"Our company is growing and our products are more in demand across many vertical markets," said D. Clark Turner, Ph.D., president and CEO of Aribex, Inc. "This new organization will give us both the flexibility and the focus to better serve each market. Heyn comes to Aribex following a 15-year sales management career with Dentrix of American Fork, Utah. Most recently, he served as general manager of the Easy Dental® division. He will manage the Aribex dental segment including sales, technical support, product management, and overall liaison with the dental industry.

Batz previously worked for Kodak, successfully leading sales teams in the dental and medical markets. He will be responsible for managing the company’s network of nationwide independent sales representatives that service and support the dental equipment dealers. Batz will be located in the Fort Worth, Texas area.

Steinhausen is a marketing expert in radiographic and visual imaging with extensive experience in a variety of corporations including Kodak, Sirona, Yoshida, and Trophy X-ray. He is responsible for developing and implementing the international strategy for the company and will direct the Aribex international marketing managers in Europe, Asia, Latin America and other global locations.

Following a 20-year career in his own business, Dawson worked in marketing and marketing communications for several Silicon Valley companies, including Lucent Technologies and Hewlett-Packard Company. He will manage corporate communications and customer support and provide marketing support to the segment groups.

J. Morita USA’s Berzins passes away
Irvine, Calif.-based J. Morita USA announced that Guntars Berzins passed away on May 18, 2008. He is survived by his wife Karmen Berzins, his children Rudy and Peter Berzins, and six grandchildren. Born in 1929 in Riga, Latvia, Berzins immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized U.S. citizen. In 1952, he entered the dental industry by graduating from the McCary School of Mechanical Dentistry in Philadelphia, Pa. For the past 13 years, Berzins focused on the sales and training for impression materials at J. Morita USA. With over 50 years of experience, his contributions to the industry were many, including product development, international sales, and at one time operation of his own dental laboratory. As a well-respected educator and friend, he will be greatly missed by his coworkers.

Burkhart Training - Basic Service Technician Classes
Two Burkhart "Basic Service Technician Training" classes have been held in 2008. Classes were held in Burkhart’s new training facility at the new Distribution Center in Tacoma, Wash. The three week class was taught by Darold Slack, Burkhart’s corporate trainer.

New technicians spent time learning about X-ray theory, sterilizers, nitrous systems, dental chairs and units, lights, as well as safety and troubleshooting methods and techniques. A number of other manufacturing partners also participated in the training program; giving the Service Technicians a chance to learn directly from the experts.

"Giving the trainees a sizable amount of ‘hands-on’ time specifically with equipment is the best way to learn," Slack said. "Plus, the added benefit of having our valued manufacturing partners participate helps get our new technicians off to the right start."

Gendex Technology Service Technician Training
Burkhart Technology Service Technicians attended training for the new GXCB-500, a Cone Beam 3-D imaging system from Gendex. The training was held from May 13 - 15 in Des Plaines, Ill., at the main Gendex manufacturing facility. Technicians were certified in operation, installation, calibration and troubleshooting of the hardware, as well as, an introduction to the acquisition software.

Binion received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and an M.B.A. in finance from the University of New Orleans.

Bradley joins Henry Schein with four years of dental experience as a territory representative at another dental company.
